QR codes on Pass Along cards

#1

Post by jascallister »

Can missionaries get pass along cards with questions on it that have QR codes linked to the landing page's that answer that question? I'm a graphic designer and was thinking about how it would be really effective to utilize QR codes to get people looking into different topics related to our doctrine. Lots of companies are using it on printed marketing materials and I think it could be effective in printed missionary materials. Is it possible to pass along ideas to the church missionary dept?

One thought might be to contact your local Mission President directly. I believe that there's some autonomy given to Mission Presidents regarding what initiatives they implement within their mission. I'd also expect there's a better likelihood of a response from the local Mission, as opposed to trying to work this through the general Church Missionary Department.

Other Forum members might have more details about whether the Church already is utilizing this type of outreach either in pass-along cards, or other sharing-the-gospel media. If there's something already in place, you could reference that existing example to bolster your case for what you're proposing.

I returned from my mission a year ago and was a social media leader. Approaching your local mission is the way to go. Individual mission offices order specific types of pass-along cards from the Church distribution services. They can also make custom designs with QR codes and ads tracking and order from local print shops, so long as they don't use the official name mark of the Church. I recall some missionaries in Colorado and parts of France doing this to link directly to a video on their mission Facebook page.

I went for a more ad-hoc approach by buying a 300-pack of letter labels from Walmart, then printing our names, phone number, and a qr code to ltw.how on each from a template, then attaching those to the pass-along cards our mission gave us. I experimented with NFC stickers for a time but found the cost-benefit to be less than the letter labels.

There are pass-along cards with questions that direct users to ComeUntoChrist.org/Questions, but they don't have QR codes:

I think I've also seen pass-along cards with a QR code to the Book of Mormon app. However, I'm not seeing them on the Online Store. They may just have been a local creation.
