Patriarchal blessing

Patriarchal blessings are given to worthy members of the Church by ordained patriarchs. Patriarchal blessings include a declaration of a person's lineage in the house of Israel and contain personal counsel from the Lord. As a person studies his or her patriarchal blessing and follows the counsel it contains, it will provide guidance, comfort, and protection.

Submitting Patriarchal Blessing Recommendations via LCR

Stake, Ward or Branch units that have access to the Patriarchal Blessing Submission System (PBSS) are encouraged to use the electronic system. Users with appropriate Ward and/or Stake access, can log-in to LCR via a supported web browser and from the Applications menu, select Patriarchal Blessings Submission.

Additionally, PBSS supports additional features not found in MLS:

• Improved process for sending recommendations to Patriarchs outside of the stake.
• Submitting recommendations for out-of-unit members (ie serving missionaries) - Stake President or stake delegated users only.
• Manage and delegate users to submit recommendations at both the ward & stake level.

Requesting a copy of a patriarchal blessing

A member may request a copy of his or her patriarchal blessing, or the blessing of a direct-line deceased family member, using the Patriarchal Blessing Request Page.

Ecclesiastical Leaders may be asked by a member to help them obtain a copy of a patriarchal blessing. They should first try to help that member set up a LDS Account or LDS Friend Account and follow the directions on the Patriarchal Blessing Request Page. They may also utilize the Ask Us button at the Church History Library or contact 801-240-3500.

Members can obtain a copy of a patriarchal blessing for:

• Self
• A deceased spouse
• A deceased child
• A deceased direct line ancestor

Information Required to Request a Patriarchal Blessing

To request a copy of a patriarchal blessing, you need to supply the following information:

• If the request is for yourself, your Membership Record Number
• Name of person (as recorded on the blessing)
• If applicable, maiden name
• Birth date
• Parents' names
• Approximate year blessing was given (if available)
• Name of patriarch (if available)
• Stake where blessing was given (if available)
• Relationship to deceased individual
• Your mailing address
• Telephone Number
• Email address

You may find your Membership Record Number on your temple recommend or by asking your Ward Clerk.
