Music muted on zoom
We had a strange occurrence with our Sacrament Zoom stream today. During the sacrament hymn, I received a text from a member, viewing the feed from home, that said we had lost sound. I checked and we did indeed have no sound being broadcast on Zoom. Thinking it might be something wrong with my computer, I rebooted my computer and restarted the Zoom feed during the sacrament pause. When the bishopric started speaking, the audio was working as it should. Then we had s Special Musical number and immediately the sound muted (no indicator on mic icon on the zoom participants page to signify that sound was being muted, just no audio indication like it normally has). Thinking this may be something new that Zoom is now doing due to copyright fears, I just waited and watched and as soon as the song was over and the speaker started talking, sound was automatically restored as normal. This happened again with the closing hymn being muted but the closing prayer not being muted. Did anyone else notice this? Is this the new Normal? If so, it would be helpful to receive notification of this new restriction so we are not concerned about the loss of audio on music.

Re: Music muted on zoom
How is the music being fed to the broadcast? Via the podium mic? If so, the system might simply be muting the audio if it's not loud enough. There might be a "noise gate" function.

Re: Music muted on zoom
By default, Zoom suppresses background "noise" so an individual speaker is heard clearly. Unfortunately, hymns, musical numbers, and other "noise" not directly spoken into the pulpit microphone will be cut out, or muted/suppressed. This can sometimes include singing into the pulpit mic. To get around this you will need to enable the "Original Sound for Musicians" option in the Zoom audio settings. Once enabled, it will need to be toggled on in order for Zoom to "hear" the background music and not be suppressed.
Here is a Tech Wiki page about it: https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wiki/Zoom_Audio
and a recent update to the process: viewtopic.php?p=260506#p260506

The only real way to know about Zoom updates and changes is to follow their every move and read about changes as they make them. This suppressed background audio issue has been addressed a number of times in this forum.jarollman wrote: Sun Dec 28, 2025 1:52 pm ... it would be helpful to receive notification of this new restriction so we are not concerned about the loss of audio on music.
