Audio for Liahona October 2024 on Android

#1

Post by sfarnsworth00 »

I seem to be unable to play the audio track only for the October 2024 Liahona articles. I see the same behavior on 2 different android devices, and have isolated to problem to only the Liahona content and only for October 2024. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Is there a resolution?

Yes.

This happens following General Conference. Eventually the audio gets included in a couple of weeks after the conference. I would expect to have the audio before the end of this week.

When the Gospel Library panel showed up proclaiming "Conference Talks Now Available" and linked to nothing, I sent feedback and received the following response from the Gospel Library Response Team. Individual audio of conference talks seems to follow a different path from the rest of the electronic forest.
Generally speaking:

Full-length videos are posted by Monday following conference in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Segment videos are posted by Wednesday following conference in English.
Friday following conference in Spanish and Portuguese.

Official text gets posted by Wednesday following conference in English.
Friday following conference in Spanish and Portuguese.

Audio for conference sessions takes longer to prepare and goes through customary audits and approvals before being distributed. This can take as much as 2-3 weeks. Every effort is made to expedite getting conference messages out to members as soon as possible. We thank you for your patience with this process.
So that seems to be the official target schedule.

The original question was about the October 2024 Liahona, but answers are referring to October 2024 General Conference (which is usually published in the November 2024 Liahona). :)

For Liahona articles, typically the text is published first, then a couple of weeks later, audio recordings are added. In that gap of a few weeks between text and audio availability, the only audio option is text-to-speech.

It looks like the October 2024 Liahona audio is available now. Interestingly, at the end of each audio track it reads that the audio was created with AI. I'll bet they magazines team would welcome feedback on the quality of the voices!
