Membership Audit Exception Help Needed - Can't be sealed to parents if BIC

Post by merrillg »

During our membership audit, we found an exception that is not making sense to our clerks: "A person cannot be sealed to parents when he or she is already born in the covenant"

We have looked at the membership record and can see the member is shown as born in the covenant. However we can't see another ordinance request or conflicting ordinance that would cause this exception. Has anyone dealt with this particular exception before or have a suggestion about how to resolve this?

Our next step is to try calling SLC for support.

Thanks!

That is the best option since they have access to information not available at the local level. Make sure you identify within what section of the audit this exception occurred. It could help them track down the cause.

It looks like LCR chooses to only display the BIC on Ordinances tab for a person even if they have both BIC and sealed to parents as that person does. There is a process to get First Presidency approval if you were BIC and want to be sealed to a different parent (see Handbook 38.4.2.3). This audit exception is saying that permission isn't recorded on the persons record.
