Set up ward clerk on 2 separate computer in clerk office

#1

Post by moored »

Hello, in one of the wards in my stake, the clerks from 3 wards use two computers in the clerks office. But, two wards use one computer, and the remaining ward uses the other one. Demand for the computer used by two wards is high some years when meeting schedules change and two wards have to compete for use of that one computer on Sundays.

They recently asked if all 3 wards could be set up on both computers so that there would be more flexibility on who uses what computer on Sundays? Right now passwords and logins are set on both existing computers for their respective wards or ward to use.

Is this possible, and how would it be done? There is probably a simple solution, at least I hope so.

Thanks for any information.

I'd call support on that one.

With the death of the MLS application, I don't know as it matters much what computer is used. However, it may mess up the church's tracking system if one ward is placed on more than one computer. That's why I'm suggesting you talk to them about it.

If having a ward on more than one computer is frowned upon, you might look at the schedule and see which two wards should share a computer this year (keeping in mind that clerks should be in Sunday School and not clerking during the second hour). The assignments may need to change each year as the schedule rotates.

I'm uncertain exactly what the requirements are for what must be done on the Clerk's computer, and what can be done via LCR on any laptop. My thought is that the Clerk computer must be used for printing checks, and that pretty much everything else can be done via LCR on any computer? (with the appropriate two-person-at-the-same-computer requirement for donation processing, etc). I'm not speaking authoritatively, and if there's a Help FAQ reference to exactly what is required to be done on the clerk computer, I'm sure someone will point me to that ;)

It's definitely helpful/convenient to use the Clerk computer, and having a locked door for donation processing seems desirable. But I'm wondering if perhaps any additional overlap between those two wards, might be lessened if one ward was able to use a personal laptop during those conflicts? I know not everyone can provide a personal laptop, but at least another possible workaround to consider.

It depends on what kind of computers these are. A separate Windows login can probably be accommodated, but I think the Chromebooks are more locked down with logins linked to Church Account. I'm not sure if that makes them more flexible or less so.

LCR has a message when printing checks indicating that they should only be printed on the unit computer. I thought there was a similar statement for donations but I can't find it anywhere in lcr, the help center or the handbook so either my search abilities failed me, I remembered wrong or it's been removed.

Our recently delivered chromebooks just have a "guest" login. (Clerk etc can create their own account but is not the default).
All payments are fully electronic here though, no cheque printing.
