Need help- Wired vs WiFi and DHCP not assigned

#1

Post by RyanGard1977 »

Received a request from a tech specialist, looking for your advice-

"The Ethernet connection on side of the chapel podium is not working properly. We use this jack to connect to the laptop for the Zoom broadcast of sacrament. Looking at this issue more closely, the computer does recognize that the cable is plugged in. However looking at the IP configuration on the computer it looks like no IP is assigned by DHCP. Same computer connected to the Liahona WiFi works properly. "

Suggestions?

I'll be checking the obvious, that both jacks are wired properly and connecting properly and connected to the equipment at both ends and seeing if i am able to connect with my laptop.
Anything else to look at?

Thank you

When in doubt, reboot everything. Turn off the modem, firewall, and laptop, and then bring everything back up in order, waiting for each to initialize before the next.

There's your problem. No connection. You can't get a IP assignment if there's no connection.

You're going to have to trace it out.

If it goes back to a managed switch, then you'll need to get your STS involved. it might be that port was set to disabled for some reason. Or, perhaps that port has gone bad, and you'll need to find another port that is configured properly. Unlike an unmanaged switch, you do have to connect it to the right port.
