In the new 2010 Handbook is, it seems that the "Stake Young Single Adult Representative" is non existent however it is still showing in the callings list. Can this be confirmed?

Although that exact title doesn't appear in Handbook 2, Section 16.3.2, the reference to "other worthy young single adults [who] are called to serve on the committee" certainly seems like it could fit that title.
Questions that can benefit the larger community should be asked in a public forum, not a private message.

My son is the "Stake Young Single Adult Representative" for our stake. Among his responsibilities is seeking out and activating othe single adults, inviting them to the single adult ward meetings and activities, and serving on the Multi stake single adult activity committee. As well as other things the Single Adult Ward Bishop or Stake President may need him to do.

Is Stake ysa rep a called position or an assignment? I'm trying to organize a Stake ysa committe and I'm being told it's not a "set apart" position.

Looks like a calling to me.
14.1.1.2
A young single adult man and young single adult woman are called to lead the committee.
In contrast, look at how the word assign is used:
The stake president may assign one of his counselors and a high councilor to support single adults. He may also assign a counselor and a high councilor to support young single adults. He may also ask the stake Relief Society president to assign a presidency member to support single adults and young single adults. The same leaders could be assigned to both groups.
