"Cookies are required to continue"???

Post by barwillhansen »

I have been struggling with Tools for nearly 2 weeks now. Everytime I attempt to log in I get an error message "SOMETHING WENT WRONG, Cookies are required to continue. Please enable cookies in your browser settings and try again". So far I have

1) Deleted and re-installed the app (several times)
2) Ensured in settings for both Safari and Chrome that cookies are enabled (several times and even had my tech savvy son ensure they were set correctly)
3) Hard re-boot on my phone. (2-3 times)
4) Ensured I am running the most up to date version of iOS 26.6.1
5) Schroll to the bottom of tools app and ensure cookie preferences are set to "Functional"

PLEASE HELP!! I am a bishop and rely on Tools heavily, not to mention when I attended the Temple yesterday, they had to call the recorder to allow me entry.

The forum is basically user-to-user discussion. Other than someone possibly having seen similar behavior and having found a solution, nobody here can fix anything. Given the urgency of the situation, contacting the GSD would probably be appropriate.

I don't know if it will help, but logging in directly in both those browsers to make sure the login works for both of them would be one more thing to test.

Church websites are known to have problems with cookie build-up. I'd suggest clearing church cookies from your browser.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I can now add the following to my attempts to get Tools running on my iPhone 14 running iOS 26.6.1

6) Deleted all browsing data from Chrome (which I have set as default browser)
7) Logged into church website directly from Chrome. Which worked fine and I have all my privileges as a Bishop in LCR.

But Tools is still not working. It appears to be stuck in a loop of Login Screen>successful login>and then an an error of "cookies are required to continue?

I have submitted a GSR Ticket and hope to hear back from someone this week. I will post my resolution in case anyone else runs into the same challenge.

WHOOP WHOOP, I FIXED IT.

In case anyone else runs into this problem. Please be aware, that even though you might have Chrome selected as your default browser on a Apple phone, the Tools app utilizes Safari as the browser. So it is required that you much clear the cookies in Safari. This is completed by

Settings> Safari> Clear History and Website Data> Advanced> Make sure "Block all cookies" is turned off

That worked for me. Hope that helps someone else.
