Church Login will not release Sign In attempt

Post by lajackson »

When I go to a Church page to Sign In, I see the following message.
Your sign in attempt was reset due to inactivity
I can click off the message, but at that point I am no longer able to sign in to anything.

The only workaround I have found is to clear the Church cookie EVERY TIME.

It appears that the site no longer recognizes that I have actually signed in and resets the basic sign in process. But that reset locks me out.

This is a royal pain. How can I fix it?

I am on Windows 11 using Firefox 147.0.4 but it began while I was on an earlier version.

What comes to mind is to make sure your time and time zone is correct.

I too noticed that this recently started happening (maybe in the last week). There was probably some update that went out that introduced a bug. I've found that if I just wait a minute or two the dialog goes away and I get the login prompt as normal and it works. I've also found that if I just login a second time it sticks and doesn't log me out due to inactivity (even though there was no inactivity).

Time and TZ are correct. More notes:

When I leave the Forum using the Church sign out (circle/picture) I am not signed out. I can go directly to the Forum again and keep working. The picture has been replaced with the Sign In bar and arrow. But I am still signed in. This suggests to me a failure to adjust the cookie to show that I went away.

When I leave another Church area, I get the inactivity error mentioned below. The sign in process continues to fail for that area. But I still am always signed in and can go to the Forum and some other areas.

This is the classic failure to manage the cookie properly. Deleting the Church cookie seems to always reset everything back to normal.

I've noticed the login status of the forum doesn't always match the header. But usually clicking on the one that shows you as logged out will resolve it.

You can still read the forum when logged out. You just can't create any posts, nor will the system track what you have read.
