Book of Mormon Recording

Post by josiebrae »

Is there a law or regulation concerning recordings of reading the Book of Mormon in your own language?
EXP:
I love love listening to audio books. I find the narration of the current Book of Mormon audio hard to listen to and want to record myself reading it. My thoughts was to make it for public consumption.
But I don’t want to do that if it isn’t ok!

If you were to do it for yourself, I do not believe there would be a problem. But making it available for public consumption would be a problem. At the very least, the headers are all copyright material, and in many cases the text is also under copyright, as well.

The Church is very careful to maintain the integrity of recorded versions of the Book of Mormon in any language. They go to great lengths to make certain that the recording is accurate, that pronunciations are consistent. They are careful to see that the way the scriptures are read does not change the meaning of the words, and they do many other quality control checks before releasing the official recorded version.

If you are having trouble understanding the current Church audio version in your language, I would suggest that you may wish to send feedback to the Church letting them know why you are having difficulty listening to the recording.

In the Gospel Library app, there's a few options you can play around with that might help out. You can select if you want a male or female audio voice -- perhaps one of those voices is easier for you to follow than the other. There's also a "Text-to-Speech" option, and if that's selected for some reason, then I could see how the generated voice might be challenging to listen to.

As an aside, the "Text-to-Speech" option has some settings controlling the underlying engine being used, as well as speech rate and pitch. So that at least can help situations where the "Text-to-Speech" audio is selected.
