Stake Clerk vs. Ward Clerk LCR Updates
Is there a list anywhere of what the Stake Clerk is required to update (ordinations, callings, etc.) vs. what the Ward Clerk is responsible for updating? This is a common question among our ward clerks. They keep asking me to update the callings for new assistant ward clerks, but I am unable to do so other than if I do it in a custom calling, which I know doesn't provide the appropriate access. I presume the system is built to only allow Wards to update certain things, and the Stake to update other things. Sure could use a list or other guidance.

Re: Stake Clerk vs. Ward Clerk LCR Updates
As far as I know, with a possible exception of the bishopric (bishop and councilors) the wards should be recording their own.
There are callings that require stake approval, but I don't know if that's reflected in LCR's rules.
I do know that calling anyone to a position of finance rights, or being able to record callings for finance rights will require a second login to approve the change. That may be the issue. I don't think the stake can bypass that.
I'm sure someone will pipe in with more information.

Re: Stake Clerk vs. Ward Clerk LCR Updates
The only thing the ward cannot do is to record MP ordination.
Different stakes seem to have different policies and guidance here. Some want the wards to be more self-sufficient, other stakes tend to take a more controlling role in updating LCR for any calling that is approved by the stake presidency.
My own approach is that if the ward can do it, then they should do it. Not everyone will agree and the handbook is silent on the matter.

The stake should be able to add any ward calling that they have to approve. At the ward level the only calling that the ward can't change is bishop, that has to be done by the stake. So for callings a stake may have their own procedure, but the way we did it in my stake was whoever got there first.

The stake MUST be the one that records Melchizedek Priesthood ordinations. That cannot be done by a ward. All other ordinances are recorded by the ward.RJSears wrote:Is there a list anywhere of what the Stake Clerk is required to update (ordinations, callings, etc.) vs. what the Ward Clerk is responsible for updating? The stake MUST update the bishop; that cannot be done by the ward. The stake CAN update the bishopric and elders quorum presidency and those callings (except for the bishop) can also be done by the ward.
One issue that you may be running into is that there is a limit on the number of assistant clerks that can be added. If you are trying to add more assistant clerks than allowed by creating custom callings, you will discover that the clerks with custom callings have no rights.

Thanks so much. As I expected. I keep getting asked to update ward clerks and assistant ward clerks - but when I select the bishopric category there are no predefined positions. I suspect this is because the updates are supposed to be done by the ward.

The way I used to do it was to go to Organizations | Ward Leadership, then pick the ward I wanted to update and the options show up there.RJSears wrote:Thanks so much. As I expected.
