Indexing program issues for Worldwide Indexing Event

#1

Post by russellh »

I have been trying to index a batch using the Indexing program, but the program has been very slow to load or gives mess error messages when I try and download a batch. Are the servers being overloaded for this event? I have never had a problem with the program in the past.

Since the event just started an hour ago, it is possible there is a surge in activity that is causing problems. Those who work during the day in the Americas almost have to do a batch this evening to participate. That mght be quite a load.

I would just be patient and keep trying. I have not yet been able to download a batch to index, either.

I received a message that the Indexing Server was not available and to please try again later. That is an indication that the server is in overload mode.

Trying again a few minutes later, I received the message that my login and password are incorrect. That tells me that the server is answering, but that it still cannot keep up.

Confident that my login/pw were correct, I typed them in again anyway, and now the page is struggling to load.

Hopefully, things will balance out shortly. I do not know if anyone is there working on things, but I would be surprised if someone was not there.

The page loads now, but I cannot download a batch. It appears the server is trying.

I have finally received a response to the Download Batch request that no batches are currently available. I will try again to see if it is still just a busy server, then it is off to sleep because work calls in the morning.

I have tried for three hours. If I cannot successfully download a batch in the next few minutes, I will not be able to participate, because the window of opportunity will be closed before I return home from work tomorrow.

It took 3 tries before I could log in. The system is very slow. Submitting a batch took 2 tries. Looks like this even was more successful than they planned.

I imagine the load is enormous and many are scrambling to compensate for the load issues. We had a youth activity around the challenge, starting at 7 PM CT tonight. Many of the youth were first time indexers. It was not a great experience for them. We will need to do a follow-up when the servers aren't under such load.

I have successfully completed a batch. The system is very, very slow.

After trying for 4 hours (see previous errors), the home page took about 5 minutes to load. Downloading a batch took about 12 minutes. Completing the batch took the normal amount of time because that happens on my local computer.

Submitting the batch took 7 minutes, and it was another 4 minutes before the home page displayed with the success popup box.

Wrong night to pray for patience.

I plan to stay out of the way until the Event is over tomorrow evening (I will actually still be at work), and then get back to my normal Indexing routine.

It is good to have been able to participate. I am glad we did not hold an event for the youth at the meetinghouse this evening. We held a fireside last Sunday to kick off a stake youth summer indexing challenge, and told them to be sure and participate in this event at home this evening or tomorrow as part of the stake challenge. (We are having a contest to see who can index more names this summer, the leaders or the youth.)
