There has been a very quiet policy change when it comes to temple recommends I just found out about. Not following it will result in a temple recommend not showing as activated at the temple even if it has been properly activated by the stake. I have already been contacted by members affected by this change - their recommends are properly activated in MLS but not showing as activated at the temple.
The change is you MUST mark as received in MLS your temple recommend books before any recommends contained in that book will be recognized at a temple. This feature has been there since we switched to bar-coded recommends, but up until now has not been required. Now it is.
To do this, in MLS navigate to Membership > Temple Recommends > Recommend Books. Put a check in the far right column after verifying you have received the indicated temple recommend books.
Please pass this information on to anyone who will need this.

Does this mean that MLS is not forwarding TR information if the recommend book is not marked as received? MLS data has to process through CHQ before the temple sees it, and if MLS is holding back the information, I can see why the temple would not know the recommend was activated.crislapi wrote:The change is you MUST mark as received in MLS your temple recommend books before any recommends contained in that book will be recognized at a temple. I have not seen this problem with recommends activated directly at the website. I wonder if it is an MLS thing.

So, we received a set of recommend books recently and one wasn't referenced in MLS, so I can't show it as received. I'm pretty sure it's a Book 3. I can't recall what Book 3 recommends authorize. They might be for youth baptisms.
I tried to electronically communicate with CHQ through MLS messaging, and the reply gave no real insight, but wanted me to call them. Considering currently depressed economics and limitations of my cell phone minutes I'd rather not call SLC. Do I have to call to clear this thing up, or can I ignore and expect it's a non-issue?

Book 3 does not require authorization because recommends in that book do not contain bar codes. Therefore, book 3's do not appear on the list. Just books 1 and 2 require authorization.jpjonesxyz wrote:So, we received a set of recommend books recently and one wasn't referenced in MLS, so I can't show it as received.
