Our stake would like to call a second stake assistant clerk but the callings list doesn't let us add one except as a custom calling. Is there a way to officially add an additional assistant to the list or is it a fixed number in LCR?
I've tried adding it on the individual calling page and the organization page.
There are no hidden callings on the list.
This 2016 thread makes it sound like we can call as many as we want.
But this 2023 thread makes it sound like clerks are limited to only one Clerk, Assistant, Finance, Membership.

I don't think it's changed since then. Some stakes were abusing the calling to allow non-clerks to see more information. The church found out and set a limit of one each.

Thanks in advance!
Do you both a Assistant Clerk and an Assistant Clerk - Membership? If not then that could work (as long as you weren't trying to have both do finance work.

Great point. We haven't called assistant over membership so I should have thought of that!
The role we wanted to fill wouldn't specifically involve membership per se but then again, stake clerks don't really manage membership records like ward clerks do so this makes the most sense to use that slot. We primarily need a calling that allows access to the missionary portal among other things.
As a slight aside, one suggestion for situations like this where additional clerks or secretaries are needed, is to see if the workload might be split up between "LCR" and "non-LCR" tasks. Obviously not an ideal solution and a bit clunky, but if a custom-calling is created and that 'custom' clerk/secretary only does "non-LCR" tasks, that might help the 'official' clerk/secretary to do tasks that require official (LCR and other) access. Again, just trying to find ways to work within the constraints of the current system, understanding that there's likely going to be overlap where the custom calling is limited by not having LCR access, but it might be manageable.
