Potential Phishing Email

#1

Post by joshua.fielding »

Hi Church people,

Recently I stayed at the Sydney temple accommodation and received the usual, "Thanks for staying with us" email but I also received an email saying "Thank you for staying at the Los Angeles California Temple Housing - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". Very odd, I never stayed there...

However what is even more curious is that the links within the email all point to mews.li. Does not sound like a Church domain. The Sydney temple email used churchofjesuschrist.org links so that appears to be fine.

Notable items:
* They used my full name
* I never stayed at the LA temple
* All the URLs are mews.li ins

Phish or no Phish?

mews.li redirects to mews.com. mews.com appears to be a booking/hospitality service, and it's possible the Church is using it, but I don't know for sure. I'd recommend sending feedback using the feedback link on the Church website. If nothing else, it's a bug that it said Los Angeles California Temple Housing when you were in Sydney. You could also try emailing the Sydney Australia Temple office to see if anyone there knows. It's good to be cautious when opening links from domains you don't recognize, and it's unusual (but not unheard of) to get communications from the Church from anything other than ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
