Using Another Ward's Computer

The scenario:
- Ward 1 is being dissolved
- Ward 2 is currently at another building, but will be moving to the building where ward 1 is/was and occupying ward 1's bishop's and clerk's offices
- The aforementioned events will happen on the same day

Would there be any issues with ward 2 just using ward 1's clerk computer being that ward 1 is being dissolved anyway?

At one time there would be concern over moving the MLS files. But MLS appears to be dead for most areas.

It might be wise to go though the files and make sure nothing sensitive has been left behind.

Would it be unreasonable to just have Ward 2 move their PC to the new building? The tiny PC box is all they'd need if Ward 1 already has a working keyboard/mouse/monitor/printer there. That way there's no chance of losing anything.

That might be the best bet to avoid any potential issues.

You will most likely want to have your stake Technology Specialist contact the FM group to let them know of this change. The FM group should be keeping track of which units are using which computers, so when it is time for a new computer they can contact the correct unit.

My understanding is that computers are assigned to the stake, and the stake decides which wards use which computers, if computers are shared, etc. – so if your question has to do with what's allowed (vs. some of the practical considerations mentioned above), then yes, the stake can authorize a ward to start using a different computer that belonged to a previous unit. It's possible that some FM Groups may manage the distribution of computers more closely than others.

As the stake STS, my FM Group is perfectly fine with how I place the computers, as long as I keep them informed.
