TM not showing 1041 access point controllers

#1

Post by maplemedic »

I have an interesting issue. We have three buildings in our stake two buildings have the 1041 access points, and one has two 1041 and one meraki. My concern is with only the 1041s. I have had requests from some of our wards to temporarily disable some of the access points to help with providing bandwidth to a family history class. When I go into TM some of the access points appear not to be recognized - they are there but the controller is not listed - it just says 'Not Found' and the label says 'Cannot edit this label'. Enable/disable switch is red with the button to the left. When I physically look at the access point they are usually showing a steady blue light.

Sometimes, if I use a different browser, different access points have this issue. Currently, one building shows all three of its access points in this condition, another with two, and another with one.

This problem only started after the new meraki firewalls were installed and the new TM was pushed out. I had no problems with the old 881 and old version of TM

I really can't help the wards with their requests. On top of that, I'll need to go around and physically disconnect the access points when we webcast our stake conference to ensure that we have sufficient bandwidth.

Any ideas?

I've split out a different thread that talks about that: "Cannot edit this label Unknown"

The affected units seem to be random. You just have to keep refreshing until the one you want pops up.

Thank you - I have tried this - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Guess we will have to wait for the future fixes to see what happens

Something you might try (at least for conference) is "disable all". I have a feeling the problem is really a reporting error. But I'm not sure how the system works, if the "disable all" is just a UI thing or if it might be able to "get behind" a display issue.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried that option - 'disable all' or 'enable all' . From what I can tell - I have an access point in my office - that does not work for those where TM cannot find the controller - it works well for those that can see the controller. Today, I have noticed that the wireless (at least those devices connected to the access point in my office) is dropping connections, and then re establishing them. This was happening on the President's phone and macbook and my PC.

Now, that's a problem!

I'd call support during Utah working hours and report that.

I'm not sure if it's due to the Sunday traffic, but today the problem is far worse than I've seen during the week when I first noticed this. Sites that had no problems are completely out (0 for 2). Sites that only had one or two out of 10 are now 7 out of 10 that are failing.

If this is affecting actual usage, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of complaints.

Yep. Same with our buildings. One building was completely out. For the access point in my office it was solid green then it went to red green amber then went blue. Still did not want to connect. I agree that folks will be calling slc tomorrow. I hear the 1041s will be replaced with merakis. Thanks for your help

The problem has gotten worse. This evening, it appears that every single AP in the stake isn't connected. However, I also noticed that it appears that the church data center had a outage lasting several hours affecting multiple services. We'll have to wait and see what things are like once everything recovers.
