I know that this is not a support forum for specific tools, but I wonder if there is anyone here who has experience using pfSense/Squid/SquidGuard who would be willing to try to answer a few questions for me outside of this forum (PM or email). I'm trying to get it set up for use on my home network, but I'm running up against some brick walls and not finding answers in the support forums and HOWTO docs I've dug up. I would normally just spend days and days scouring the internet and experimenting until I learned enough to get things working the way I want, but since being called as Bishop last year, I've had to seriously curtail the amount of time I spend "playing around."

Anyone willing to lend a hand? If something good comes of it, we may be able to summarize the key points in a way that could be helpful to others on this forum.

Just curious as to how many of the 59 views this thread has had so far are from people who would also be interested in this type of setup. Perhaps if anyone else has some time available to play with it and learn (even though you may not currently be an expert), we could collaborate to figure it out together... Anyone?

The number of views on a thread is not a particularly good indication of actual interest in a topic. Many people at least glance at every new thread to see if it is interesting of they have any feedback, and a somewhat smaller but significant number will at least take a peek at every new post. So your number of 59 will go up significantly simply because you posted again, but it's tough to draw conclusions from that number.

That said, it's a good strategy to "bump" the thread to help you gauge the interest level -- you may find someone who wasn't active in the forum last week when you first posted. But if that doesn't get any response, you probably will just want to subscribe to this thread so that you'll get notified if anyone comes across it and replies in the future.

You are right. I am subscribed, and that's exactly what I was doing--bumping the thread while trying to provide a little more encouragement for participation than simply posting the standard "bump" or "TTT" post.

That's not encouraging. If the forums dedicated to the subject doesn't have the answers, then I'm not sure as there are any.

The closest I've come to any of those products is ClearOS which I believe has Squid wrapped up as part of it.

I'm sure that if I had the time and patience that I might find someone over there who could help, but my attempts to find existing posts with the information I needed were unfruitful. It appears that there are not many folks on those type of forums who are home users concerned with keeping objectionable content out. Most of them are using the software for business clients and scoff at the idea of parents wanting to keep home internet use on a short leash. So I figured I'd try my luck here to see if any of the people who are more likely to share my concerns have any experience with these tools.

Good Luck with setup, if you and your family firefox or Chrome Internet Browsers, you can add these Plugins: Blocksi, Blocksite, Web Content Filter from Visit www.cloudacl.com, These are three Plugs that will also add some value to Help Block Stuff. They are all made by differnet People they do helps some what. Also For Squid Proxy users, you can also add this http://www.urlfilterdb.com/ filter along with Squidguard, so you can increase your Protection. this is some Friendly advice to Help Get rid of the wickness in the world.
