Basically the same question was asked nearly a year ago. Please see this page: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/stu ... s?lang=eng If that does not resolve the question for you, please counsel with your bishop or branch president.

I nave the same question. I spoke to my Bishop and he said to pay what I feel is right. That wasn't a big help.

Your bishop is limited in that he is only allowed to say what the Lord said in Doctrine and Covenants 119:4, that tithing is one-tenth of all your interest annually, which is understood by the First Presidency to mean income.davcampbell wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 6:49 pm I nave the same question. So with regard to Social Security, is your increase the difference between what you paid into the system over the years and what you are receiving now or is it everything that you receive this year? You have to prayerfully decide that for yourself.
It is actually fairly easy to calculate how much you have paid over the years through withholding and compare it to how much you are receiving. When I was retiring and ran the math, I was astonished with the results. I decided personally that I did not wish to get out of the habit of paying tithing during that fairly short period of time. I have been blessed throughout my life and always been at peace being generous with the Lord.
But that was my own personal decision, confirmed by the Spirit to me alone. Your decision may be different. I am certain that as you prayerfully make your decision, the Spirit will also help you to know you have made a good choice. If you decide and then are not comfortable, it would be time to reevaluate that decision until the Spirit helps you to be at peace.
