I'll give you that. You didn't directly say the Church made the wrong decision. I probably leaped to a conclusion.

However, I still don't like the "I hate Symantec" tirade on these public forums. I don't want to listen to it, but I'm forced to wade through your distracting comments to find the productive discussion in this thread. I don't think remarks like that have a place on these forums.

The only solution that i see, is just wait that the process ends their work, and then run MLS.
If it's that big of an issue, then don't turn your computers off.

Well, from my point of view, if someone has had a negative experience with software, a post about it is productive when it could potentially save countless hours of headaches. If you like Symantec, that's fine.... I just felt a need to warn people about the stuff they put out because of the many hours I've wasted dealing with it. I speak for no one but myself (as usual.)

I am motivated to visit these forums to learn from others experiences... not just to try to help the Church.

We are using Desktop 5.5 with Symantec, definitions manually updated regularly, on all of our Admin computers. Rtvscan does not run on our computers. That means either:

1. We are doing something wrong (or not doing something).
2. This does not affect folks on dialup, just those with Meetinghouse Internet access.
(One of our boxes is on an FHC internet connection, and it does not run rtvscan, either.)

Am I missing something?

I have never checked to see if Rtvscan is running, but now that my curiosity is peaked, I'll have a look. However, the Desktop software offers very little that can be modified by the user in regards to the configuration of the Symantec software.

You may wish to check the Symantec web site to see if there are any trouble reports that refer to the Rtvscan issue.

Edit: It's now evening and earlier I had a chance to be at our ward building so I checked to see if Rtvscan was running. I didn't see it, yet everything else appears to be functional with good responses. I also ran a scan and found no problems. Is the scan only occuring during initial boot?

Did you check under the "Process tab" in "Task Manager"? That's about the only place I'd expect to see it. If it is not running, something is very wrong. Possibly infected with something that shut it down.

While it would be interesting to troubleshoot, it would probably be more productive to back everything up and reload Desktop 5.5. Just keep in mind the need to reset security before Send/Receive will work.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

You may want to defragment the hard drive. That will speed both operations up.

Thanks ... I did that and the problem was solved.
