New Virus Protection for Clerk Computers

Sophos is still on the clerk computers in my stake.

Assuming the clerk's office doesn't get too hot, you might want to adjust the power settings so it doesn't go to sleep and leave it on for a week and see what happens.

There are computers in my meetinghouse, one still have Sophos installed, and the other doesn't have it. The problem is that the second one don't have the Windows Defender antivirus enabled, and the page where I'm supposed to enable it says: "Your Virus & thread protection is managed by your organization". Any advice on this?

For the first one, I'd go into power in the Control Panel, and set it so it never goes to sleep. Leave the computer on for a week and see what happens.

It's too bad that we have to stumble across these items on accident. The original post says "beginning March 8, 2021". Apparently it did not happen. Sophos is still on the clerk computers in my stake.

I have been an STS in my stake for almost 10 years, and I am sad to say communication on the IT side of things has gotten consistently worse.... In fact, with how highly organized our religion is, I find it troubling to say the least.. it is very "un church like".

I am only here because I got an email that one of my computers was not enrolled for their management utility (which I find strange as I just replaced them all last year, and all the others are fine)

I should not have to "stumble" upon information like that, and whoever is in charge needs a wake up call.

Those instructions are awful too, how about you just give us the uninstall password?????

In my last occupation, as a desktop tech for a high school district, I supported thousands of computers (many very old), and we had sophos. I consider it the worst resource hog EVER, so I am glad to see it go.

I had a couple of machines that failed to remove Sophos automatically. Installing the instructions found in the first post of the REQUEST: Please put your clerk computers under management fixed that problem. While it's possible to remove manually, it's really involved. I recommend letting the system do it automatically.

On another note, I notice that I have multiple machines that were running "Hitman Pro" in the Task Manager. But it doesn't appear to be installed anywhere. I hear that's a pretty good program.

I'll second that. Unbelievably difficult to uninstall manually.

We've asked and asked for roadmaps, etc... and I'd agree with the above, it has gotten steadily worse. But I also got demoted from the Stake Presidency org to just another run-of-the-mill stake calling like everyone else has. Now the FM has NO IDEA who to engage when they need to replace the computer, is it the Family History STS, the STS assigned to run the broadcast at building X, Y, Z or who... how many emails does it take to get to the right person, like 7. I honestly have NO idea why the STS/ATS wasn't kept, and just add the Ward tech Specialist. I have one FM group that never wants me to touch the network equipment, but takes a couple of weeks to respond to tickets, then retires and the new FM is wondering why all the network tickets are coming to him and asking that we call the STS (whichever of the 5 listed in the org now we have to guess at who is the right one to call). I just don't know how this whole thing works anymore, and neither to most bishops and stake presidents. If I didn't have the last 2 decades working with MIS/MLS, webcasting, etc.. I think I'd put a fork through my eye if I was called new to this position.
