With recent announcements regarding preparedness, http://www.providentliving.org/content/ ... -1,00.html , the providentliving.org site is bound to get more interest. (But the Food Storage Calculator IMHO is terribly inadeqate for long term storage, and ripe for replacement!) We could build a quick app to replace this, and provide the basis for other projects which want to leverage the ICS Java Stack. (Of course, this assumes that the Stack is available for use on servers not hosted by the Church)tomw wrote:...Emergency Prepardness (help people track food storage, help organize service, etc)...

The pamphlet?haledn wrote:With recent announcements regarding preparedness, http://www.providentliving.org/content/ ... -1,00.html , the providentliving.org site is bound to get more interest. Food storage calculators
The reason that I proposed doing a food storage calculator was to provide some "meaningful" functionality to LDS users (not just a pet store), but at the same time demonstrate how an integrated Stack app would work. If the Stack isn't available, then perhaps this isn't a good candidate.
For someone interested in where I was going with this, here a few examples:
One page, JavaScript example: http://www.thefoodguys.com/foodcalc.html
Commercial desktop app (demo available) http://www.foodstorageplanner.com/

Providentliving.org used to have a food storage more like the one at http://www.thefoodguys.com/foodcalc.html
You'd put in the number and ages of the people in your family and and how long you wanted your storage to last (1 year, 1 month) and you'd get a customized report telling you how much you should try to save for that time period. What ever happened to that? The one on there now IS Grossly inadequate!

I think that they are moving to simplify their recommendations regarding food storage. I expect to hear an announcement regarding this in the next few weeks (if not during Conference). But making less specific recommendations means that people are going to need more flexible tools to assist them in this process.nimebe wrote: What ever happened to that?
