Do you know if that was under the current security setup (Symantec AV)? The machines worked OK when new, but it was Desktop 5.5 with all the new security stuff that really killed performance.Mikerowaved wrote:I ran some experiments last year

I finally got a response from our FM Group that budget adjustments are impacting the 5 year replacement plan. For the Church there is a large bubble of unit computer replacements in 2009 and 2010. Our FM manager is expecting new policies from Church headquarters. Meanwhile it looks like the recommended schedule for replacements will be spread out over three years. For example the computers that were planned for replacement in 2009 would have 1/3 replaced in 2009, 1/3 replaced in 2010, and 1/3 replaced in 2011. The planned replacements for 2010 would go 1/3 in 2010, 1/3 in 2011, and 1/3 in 2012.aprayzr wrote:Word from our FM Group: "We will not be replacing any computers this year unless they fail or you can see that they are about to go out.
Until Church headquarters provides new direction our FM manager would like to go on an attrition replacement plan. I have asked him to reconsider in light of the capacitor issue that has already begun to take its toll in our stake.

I can't say as I'm too surprised at the desire to spread out the replacements. Most everyone jumped on the 5 year replacement plan at the same time and I'm sure that's taking a toll on the books with the replacements coming due.jdlessley wrote:Until Church headquarters provides new direction our FM manager would like to go on an attrition replacement plan.
A couple of thoughts:
First, this makes the next round of replacements rather difficult since the will come due in different years and may result in different models.
You may also ask him to consider the models involved. See if the numbers work out to replace all GX270s now and wait a year on GX280s.
If he keeps with the attrition plan, I'd urge him to at least stock a replacement so that it can be obtained immediately.

We have eight GX270s and the stake computer is a GX280. I have already made my preferences known about replacing on the 1/3 per year plan and the concern with the capacitor failures.RussellHltn wrote:You may also ask him to consider the models involved. That's in your stake. I imagine that the FM group has to deal with multiple stakes. Maybe in this larger view replacing only GX270s will work out to the FM manager's satisfaction. It also gives him a defendable position on why he choose to replace the ones he did. I cringe at the thought have having to explain to 2/3 of a stake why they didn't get new computers when 1/3 did.jdlessley wrote:We have eight GX270s and the stake computer is a GX280.

We had a training two days ago with our FM Group Manager and he talk with us that FM resources are cut in 73% in Brazil Area. It includes Meetinghouses rental, construction and renovations, and all FM provided equipment, with IT and computer equipaments too. He say that's because the world financial crisis, to help the Church to stay prepared to help people in need.

That is very similar to the information our FM manager gave. He said they have been requested to cut approximately 21% out of the operations budget and 71% out of project budgets.MorettiDP wrote:We had a training two days ago with our FM Group Manager and he talk with us that FM resources are cut in 73% in Brazil Area. MLS Computer Monitor and Printer Replacements
Our local FM group has provided the following information:
"There are new standards for replacement of printers and monitors. They are now to be replaced at time of failure instead of every five years. (the computers will still be replaced every five years) Our budget structure has changed quite a bit of late."

It would be nice to know if that's a church policy or a local one. If it's a church one, then it would be nice if the polices and letters section would be updated.pete_arnett wrote:Our local FM group has provided the following information:
