How to change parental contact information in Missionary Portal?
How can a missionary who has submitted incorrect email contact information for his parents update or correct that contact information?

I'm not sure, but I doubt the missionary can change it themselves. I'd guess that it would need to be updated in one of these places:
– By the mission office, via the Internet Mission Office System (IMOS)
– By the missionary's home ward clerk, via the Missionary Online Recommendation System (MORS)
– By the clerk in the parent's ward (usually the same as the missionary's home ward), by updating the parent's membership record to have correct contact info

Which seems odd to me because it was the missionary who submitted the incorrect email address as contact information in the first place.
I think that one of these two options are the most likely to be successful. Thanks.I'd guess that it would need to be updated in one of these places:

The information is actually already correct in the parent's membership record, so apparently the mission office and the normal Church Account systems are not tightly integrated.– By the clerk in the parent's ward (usually the same as the missionary's home ward), by updating the parent's membership record to have correct contact info
Sorry it took so long to respond, I didn't realize that there had been any responses to this---not having received any notification from the forum---and I just now stumbled upon it.

You may have encountered something I think I've found as well.
If I'm correct, even if you are the creator of a post, you won't get any alerts about responses unless you also subscribe to the post. It seems logical that the post creator would automatically receive alerts for any response, but I don't think that's how it defaults.

That setting is in your preferences: "Notify me upon replies by default". Since both of you have it set to "No", I assume that's the new user default.BrianEdwards wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 2:01 pm If I'm correct, even if you are the creator of a post, you won't get any alerts about responses unless you also subscribe to the post. Aha!
Thanks for pointing that out. I still think the default should be "on" for reply notifications, but it's good to know it's customizable. And a reminder to me I should remember to check the settings for these types of things

Thanks for letting me know about the setting. I knew about the option that I could check it on a per-post basis, but didn't realize it might be a personal preference.russellhltn wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 2:46 pm That setting is in your preferences: "Notify me upon replies by default". Apparently I assumed that the creator of a post would automatically be notified of any direct replies to that post, but I guess that is not the case.BrianEdwards wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 2:01 pm If I'm correct, even if you are the creator of a post, you won't get any alerts about responses unless you also subscribe to the post.

What is your definition of direct reply? If another user quotes any part of a post you make then you will get a notification that you were quoted. But if another user merely makes a post after yours, without using the system quote feature, you will not get a notification unless you have set up your preferences as russellhltn posted.ambldsorg wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:29 pmApparently I assumed that the creator of a post would automatically be notified of any direct replies to that post, but I guess that is not the case.BrianEdwards wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 2:01 pm If I'm correct, even if you are the creator of a post, you won't get any alerts about responses unless you also subscribe to the post.

Re: How to change parental contact information in Missionary Portal?
Fair question. A "direct reply" is one which was made to my post, not somewhere in the middle of the thread against someone elses post (whether or not quotes were used). However, you bring up a good point about whether or not something was "quoted". I suppose if one is driven enough, one could find the post IDs required to include a quote from a different post in the reply to someone elses post. Should I be notified when a post to someone elses message also includes a "quote" from a message that I posted elsewhere in the thread? Possibly.
Here's a test where I quote a previous message that is not a direct reply to your message.
I wonder if I'll get a notification for quoting my self in a reply to your message.
At any rate, I'll look through the setttings and make sure they are appropriate. Thanks.
