There's a possibility that could be a symptom of the cookie buildup problem. To determine whether the cookie buildup problem is at fault, try it in private or incognito mode. If that fixes things, then clear your browser's cache and delete relevant cookies. That should fix it for a while (until the cookie builds up in size again).

This could also mean your Church account does not have your membership record number (MRN) recorded in it. Log in to your account at account.ChurchofJesusChrist.org and see if your MRN is displayed in your profile in the Membership Record Number (MRN) section.

I don't think one has to be a member to highlight scriptures.

There's lots of other functions that require membership, but I don't think that's one of them.
