What we need is a set of functions like the ministering districts where proposed assignments can be constructed and reviewed prior to implementation (by override or by automation).
We shouldn't have to fight the automation.

Re: LCR Dropping Class Assignments?
I agree on not fighting automation but that's the way it is...and trying to improve it or seeking feedback is met with apathy or silence. We are a large ward (about 250-270 in attendance) and have split primary classes already and will have even more split primary classes next year. I have 2024 rolls saved from this week and will use that plus the Primary President's guidance to split classes just after the new year but I think this is going to be a long and painful process based on the last experience and lack of help available from the help desk.

Re: LCR Dropping Class Assignments?
We have about 290 on the roster with attendance of ~200. Our ward was part of a realignment a year ago. Youth and Primary combined only constitute about 50, and 30+ of that is Primary. So ~20 youth across the classes means combining for our classes.
I guess it partly comes down to age distribution and activity.
When I commented about large wards I was remembering being in a ward in Phoenix. AZ that had two Elders Quorums, two RS, two Gospel Doctrine classes, all split Youth SS classes. Attendance as I recall was about 450-500. We occupied a medium sized stake center.
