Family History Resposibilities

#1

Post by pjstamps »

I am a Family History Consultant and lately have become totally challenged /confused by many others as to what can do and what I never was suppose to have done all along - assist the youth with temple trips and help with family names, encouraging the youth to go to the temple and being there also. No other leader ever was there or participated. I also oganized and set up the temple trips for the adults and set up any transportation needed. I taught and lead all the indexing needed and followed thru with the indexing and temple challenges and took all particpants to the temple with the family names discovered. We had no Family History Leader and no Indexing consultant let alone any youth consultant or any other assistance. All of a sudden I am being told I was never suppose to have there at the temple and should never go with either group again as that is not my calling or ever was.
Twice now, I have been told I cannot go to the temple with others (because it was another group- primary) Did all of a sudden my responsibilities change?

The responsibilities are listed in the General Handbook 25.2.4 - Ward Temple and Family History Consultants.

I can't say as I've ever heard of the consultants helping with temple trips. Mostly on helping members with their Family History to prepare names.

It sounds like you've been trying hard to magnify your calling and help others find joy in temple and family history work. That's commendable.

I don't know the circumstances in your ward, but it may be that your leaders are just being cautious about leaders' interactions with children and youth. See Protecting Children and Youth.
