Any lights on Christmas trees in the church used to be prohibited, but I could not find that in the current handbook and guidelines. There is information related to holiday decorations here: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/stu ... n?lang=eng

Decorations may not present a fire hazard, must comply with local fire and safety codes, and comply with local ordinances. If there is no outlet near where the Christmas tree is located, an extension cord will have to be used which could create a trip hazard if not properly placed and managed. I have seen situations where Christmas trees create an egress hazard in the event of an emergency by restricting foyer or hallway space which is designed to allow safe exit from the building (restricting the designed exit path could violate fire or safety codes).

Then, there is this statement in the Facilities Handbook linked above: "Decorations are discouraged in the foyers to keep a focus on reverence for the Savior."

I suggest counselling with the Bishop for his direction. He can reach out to the Stake President if he has questions.
