Reimaged clerk computer. But asks for unknown email/password at login

I got stuck at a login part when I re-imaged a clerk's computer. I'm not sure what to do next.

I did it by adapting the instructions here: https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wi ... _Computers. Since we're on Windows 11 now, I used the middle link here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows11 to create installation media. Created a USB drive, changed the computer's boot order, and reinstalled Windows. I saw the church's provisioning stuff kick in. Then it rebooted, sent me to a screen asking for an email and password to log into Windows. But I don't know the username and password. I tried to reset it, but it asked for a reset USB drive which I also didn't have. I tried reinstalling three times just to see if I missed something, same issue.

I also tried the last link in the Windows 11 process where I get a straight ISO image. The problem there was the computer uses Intel RST drivers which are required for the windows installation to proceed, and the intel RST driver self extractor crashes and won't extract those drivers. The Lenovo drivers for this PC appeared to not be for Windows installation.

I'm kind of stuck what to do. Is there a default username and password when I reinstall Windows using the Windows Installation Media approach?

That sounds like the same issue I had when we received our new computer.
You will need to call support, (they will need the serial number of the computer)

The issue required configuration changes at headquarters and then a signal was sent that caused the computer to re-image itself.

This is just an update for others to complete the discussion. I was able to get past the issue and ran into some new things I hadn't seen before.

The issue appeared likely due to using a tool like Balena Etcher to create a bootable USB from an ISO image. Windows ISO images need special care, and most ISO to USB software can't handle it. When I switched to using a tool called Rufus, and I used the Windows 10 bootable ISO, then it did the trick.

The error message that I received in the prior rounds about not finding a driver was also is likely related to that. Google searches made it sound like it was Intel RST drivers. But once I finally got the correct intel RST drivers, the Windows install rejected those too because they weren't the correct drivers.

Finally, once I reinstalled Windows 10 and used the church's provisioning software, I ran into two surprises. Windows and the Church's update process updated to Windows 11, something I haven't seen before in other clerk computers. It then popped up a message saying the church wanted the hard drive encrypted with bitlocker, so I did that process as well.

What version of Win11? I'm seeing where the latest version of 11 forces bitlocker on.

Whatever the church upgraded it to. I started with a fresh Windows 10 iso image (not the one that has the drivers packaged in from that computer. I went for a fresh install). Then I installed the church provisioning tools. Then it asked to update to Windows 11. Then a popup said the organization requires bitlocker.

What's interesting is that I just haven't seen this pop up in my other clerk's computers.

I have to wonder if the generic Windows Update kicked in before the provisioning tool could make the change.

I'm sure it takes time for the download to happen, so it was likely going long before you saw the prompt.

Then again, it's not unheard of for the church to mis-provision clerk computers as employee computers.

I just provisioned a new church admin computer fresh out of the box. The provisioning tool was already loaded and ran on first boot. Windows 10 remained in place, although when I plugged it in at the clerk's office it tried to run another Windows update which the clerk canceled before I could see exactly what it was trying to do.

Hello - I'm just getting ready to set up a clerk computer for the first time. Your response here may have answered one of my questions. Can I do the set up from my home, then take the computer to the clerks office and finish the set up there?

The only thing I do at the clerks office is hook up the computer, attach a printer (unless the clerk beats me to it), and make sure they can access the Internet. I do everything else at home.
