Are there any UPDATED guidelines to naming stake PUBLIC facebook groups (not "pages")? I read the guidelines at https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/pag ... b-internet, but that's mostly what not to do (like use the word "Ward" or "Stake" in your public group name).
I am a newly called Stake Social Media Specialist and want to get these names right the first time. I was told to make sure it includes a reference to the church but also a reference to the fact that it's more than just members who should follow. I was also told to change our public PAGE to be a public GROUP since the reach is higher.
But for the name, I wanted to get others input. I'm thinking something like "South Atlanta Community with Latter-day Saints" (excluding the word stake, but including our reference)? Please help.

I don't know of any other guidance other than that page. However, I don't interpret that page to prohibit using the word "Ward" or "Stake" but rather that the page/site name should not be simply the ward or stake name. The acceptable examples given ("First Ward News" and "Friends of the First Ward") both have "Ward" in it. The key seems to be that there should be something more that indicates the purpose of the page.

While not mentioned, note that terms like "LDS" or "Latter-day Saints" are frowned upon unless it's part of the church's full name.

It appears to me that you could use the name "Atlanta Georgia Stake Community and Friends". That complies with the guidance and examples. If necessary that could be further tailored to your goal or purpose for the website.

Using the full name of the Church is preferred when referring to the Church itself, but the shorter phrase "Latter-day Saints" is still appropriate when referring to members of the Church. See Style Guide — The Name of the Church. You would of course want to include the full name of the Church in the group or page description.russellhltn wrote:While not mentioned, note that terms like "LDS" or "Latter-day Saints" are frowned upon unless it's part of the church's full name.
I like jdlessley's suggestion above.

Re: Communication Council Facebook/Twitter/Instagram Account Names
Hi Guys,story saver
It seems that the page guidelines don't explicitly forbid using words like "Ward" or "Stake," but rather emphasize that the page or site name should not be solely comprised of the ward or stake name. The examples provided ("First Ward News" and "Friends of the First Ward") both include "Ward" but also have additional context indicating the purpose of the page. Therefore, the important aspect is to ensure that the name clearly communicates the purpose of the page or site.
