I used to beable to do searches in this form and now I'm getting this message saying I don't have permission to search...

Try incognito mode. Like many church web pages, even the forum suffers from cookie buildup problems.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

Sorry, I see now that even though it shows that I'm signed in, and I can post as me. I still need to log into a subsystem for some forum functionality.

I've noticed the logins don't always sync. But once signed in, a quick click will fix it.
