Mevo Start Chapel Placement

#1

Post by Seyersdahl »

I am hoping this is the right Forum for this. I realize there are other solutions and many of our wards are using some very distracting and complicated solutions. Before seeing the recommendation that Mevo Start was on the list we had already tested and chose this solution as a Stake. I am personally depending on the building either halfway back on the Bishops side (so people can see the Bishop) in the pews or in the same side at the back of the room. Being in a remote location with many units that are small and different sizes brings many challenges. We really like how well this solution has been working for our wards/branches.

My question to those who have these Mevo Starts how are you utilizing the placement in the Chapel to avoid the devices from being a distraction?

We aren't using a Mevo, but I have an adapter to mount a webcam on a microphone stand. I put it on a table in front of the first pew directly in front of the pulpit.

I think the microphone stand is much less distracting than a tripod.

We put our Mevo about 2 rows back from the front on a mic stand. Have it about 5'5" high. This isn't really noticable for most people, except for the first few pews directly behind and people just don't sit there, they move to the side a foot or so if it's in the way.

You could put a music stand one or two rows from the front in the chapel, tilted so the top is flat, and use it as a table for the camera. This works well in my ward (we don't have a Mevo, we just use a laptop with a built-in webcam facing the podium).

That's interesting that we've found the sweet spot to be about 5'5" high and about the same away from the pulpit.

We've been using the mevo since August last year and our approach has evolved over that time.
We've had it closer, further, lower and higher and the 5 and half foot rule seems to be just the right balance based on feedback from dozens of members with a keen eye and interest in the subject.

What looks fine in person, is very different to what looks normal for a broadcast.
Steep learning curve for us with no professional experience in this field but some youtube instruction and plenty of feedback/dialogue from those at home has helped greatly.

We also find that the lighting can make a dramatic difference. We actually leave some of the lights turned off which gives a better image in terms of colour and brightness. Might be something for you to test in your particular building.
