Contact Temple Department?

#1

Post by lewynn »

Just wondering if it is possible to contact the Temple Department. Had a question regarding the Tooele Utah Temple and was wondering if it was possible to contact them.

Thank you very much.

At this point I would think most questions that can be answered about the Tooele Valley Utah Temple would have been answered in Church News articles. After all, it has been announced and the site has been selected, but there is no groundbreaking date set. Some renderings of the three-story, 70,000 square foot temple are available online. The Tooele County Zoning Commission approved the zoning plan in May. But that is about it.

I would not recommend it, but I suppose one could call the Church switchboard and ask for the Temple Department. That may be as far as you get, although I am sure they will be nice about it.

Thanks,
I sorta figured. All the stuff going on about referendum and all I just wanted to ask if they would put the Angel Moroni on it. From the renderings when you look across from the west toward the temple it just looks like a big office building. A pretty one, but still sort of officey. I think it would make a big difference if it had the Angel on top.

From The Salt Lake Tribune
The Washington County Temple will have a golden Angel Moroni statue atop its steeple, the renderings show, while the Tooele Valley one will not. More and more of the church’s recently announced temples are being built without this iconic figure,
No idea why the difference.

There are 29 temples without an Angel Moroni. I do not know how the decision is made. Some are recent, and some are very old.

If you feel strongly about it, a word to your bishop or stake president could be passed up through priesthood channels, but I think the First Presidency, who decide these things, have a pretty good idea whether or not they wish to have an Angel Moroni on a temple, and I have been seeing more and more recently without one. I hope that is not a new trend, but you never know.

Looking at the rendering I have seen of the Tooele Valley Utah Temple, I do not think I would mistake if for just an office building, unless you have some pretty nice stuff out there already. [smile]

Oh I know. I've seen the ones without it. This one just looks too businessy in the setting it is in. Probably just personal sentiment.

Hello,
My name is Ted Hodges. I accomplish a lot of Family History on our family tree. The result is 100's of ancestors who need ordinance work done for them.
My wife and I do sealings every Wednesday.
I submit 100s of names to be done by the Temple.
Recently I have many ancestors who are receive the ordinance of baptism but are not being confirmed.
My question is, "Has there been a change in the procedure of confirmation taking place immediately after the Baptism ordinance?
I take the ordinance card to a temple and they tell me I should send them back to the Temple that did not complete the ordinance.
Please help me on this issue.
Thank You
Ted Hodges

When a name is submitted to be done by a temple, it goes on a baptism list. Once the baptism has been performed, the name is added to a confirmation list to then be performed. So names submitted to the temple do not have both ordinances completed together.

This is different than when a member takes an ordinance card to the temple, where the baptism is performed and then the confirmation may be performed immediately following.

It sounds to me like Ted is picking up his family names that were shared with the temple after the baptism is complete and trying to accomplish the confirmation. I wonder why the temple would instruct him to NOT complete the confirmations when the 2 ordinances are separated by current temple processes. If the temple that does the baptism must do the confirmation, the system should not allow members to pick up shared names until after the confirmation is also complete. My (possibly incorrect) understanding is that once an ordinance for a shared name is complete, the name can then be picked up by any temple for the next ordinance or pulled off the shared list by the person who shared it so they can accomplish it themselves. Ted, perhaps you should ask to speak with a member of the Temple Presidency and explain your situation to get clarification.

The Layton temple was just dedicated and has a beautiful Angel Moroni on top, although it joins the few others that face west.

BTW, to answer the general question of why some temples have Moroni and some do not, this article was published some years ago in the Ensign, but much still applies today.
“Ensign, Jul. 1994, 66–67 wrote: (From Val D. Greenwood, “How long have statues of the angel Moroni appeared atop Latter-day Saint temples? Is there a reason the statues don’t appear on top of all temples?”).

The Church has no policy regarding the use of statues of the angel Moroni atop temples. The general practice is to use the statue, but there are reasons it may be absent. In certain geographic locations, building codes or use permits restrict use of the statue. The Sydney Australia Temple, for example, originally had no statue because of building restrictions. The statue was added later after permission to do so was granted.

In some areas, a statue may give more ornamentation than desired. In other areas, the statue is absent because a wrong impression may arise from its presence (such as in areas where statues on church buildings are understood to represent objects of worship). Limits imposed by the architectural design of some temples may be another reason.
