Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
Hello,,
our FHC Lexmark printer no more has the option of scanning to the pc's.
Do any of you know, if this is due to some update (of Windows 10 or the Lexmark)?
It seems the machine requires Java in order to be set up now..
Please also write how to make it possible to scan to the pc's again, if possible
thank you

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
I have never had success trying to configure the Lexmark Scan-to-PC function. My preference was to setup the MFP as a network scanner on each PC in the FHC.

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
Thank you for your fast and good answer Dana,
however we had it all working on all the pc's; both Scan-to-pc as well as local scan from pc -it was last used around half a year ago, but when the Bishop recently needed a scan, the icon (scan-to-pc) was removed from the Lexmark and it was not possible to use the link from the pc's anymore. I am wondering if it is due to some update of the printer or the pc's? Also there is now a Scanningprofile-item at the printers webinterface, but it requires Java, and we have Windows 10 with no Java, and the newer versions of Firefox and Chrome does not want Java..

Perhaps your easiest option is to use the "scan to USB" feature of the printer. Insert a flash drive into the printer, then scan as many documents as you like. Then you can move the flash drive to a PC.

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
The last time I installed one of those, I found the icon would appear only if the scanner could locate a computer it could scan to. Once I disabled that feature on all the computers, it disappeared on the Lexmark on it's own.Frb.Henrik wrote:the icon (scan-to-pc) was removed from the Lexmark
I'm not sure why the icon on the PC no longer works. Perhaps the firewall rules on the PC were changed.

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
Was this ever solved?
I was just approached about our lexmark not scanning from the family history app on the printer and not scanning from a program on the computer. Don't know how long they have had a problem. "months" is the answer I get. Has it been a year? No idea. As best I can tell the app leaves time for the scanner to operate but the scanner never runs. From the computer it just sits there and does nothing till it times out or ctrl-alt-del is used to stop it.

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
well, I have just had problems with one of our computers: no longer being able to scan...
Did a lot of reinstalls of driver -nothing improved, then remembered D. Repouille's post (2. link):
https://tech.lds.org/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 10#p124297
tried it some times (choosing different printernames) -all the time testing if there came a "Start scan" option when right-clicking on the new printer-icon, and finally it worked again (then draged that icon to the desktop, creating a shotcut, so users can right-click the icon and choose Start Scan)

One of the things that I have encouraged my patrons to do is bring a thumb drive. You can scan straight the the thumb drive and you don't have to put it on the churches computers. It can be edited on the thumb drive at the computer and attacked to the Family tree from there. Clean and simple and you don't have to remember to remove it from the computer later.

Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
our printer had an app on the printer that let it scan directly to the specified user's account without it ever being stored on the church computer. Currently that isn't working and the scan function from the computers isn't working either.ka7zrp wrote:One of the things that I have encouraged my patrons to do is bring a thumb drive. Re: Lexmark printer: no more local scans?
Finally got it working. Stake technology specialists have additional help available in the family search help on the top right after you log in with your account. Lexmark printers entered in the search function and the 2nd article showed how to reinstall the app and reset the DNS info so it works.
Be aware while the directions don't specify it you need to fix the DNS info first and then install the app. Otherwise it crashes and then won't do anything. To get it back to working a complete reset of the computer and the Lexmark printer scanner was needed. Even then it showed the app installed on line but not on the printer. Uninstall the app yet again. Do the DNS fix first in spite of it being 2nd in the directions and then everything worked like it was supposed to.
