Webcast a satellite broadcast?
I'm curious if it's permissible to grab the satellite signal of a multi-stake/state satellite conference broadcast from SLC on Nov. 6 and webcast it into another building that doesn't have satellite and to make it available to the homebound. Anyone know? Thanks.

"Permissible", yes. But you might want to read the instructions given for that conference very carefully. The last one I experienced had indicated that all local officiating was to be local to each building. It was expected that any streaming was to be direct from CHQ, not from the stake center. Those who decided to stream from the stake center found the system badly overloaded. We were told the capacity was increased to prevent that from happening again, but I'm not sure as I'd want to bet on that.mprusse wrote:I'm curious if it's permissible to grab the satellite signal of a multi-stake/state satellite conference broadcast from SLC on Nov. 6 and webcast it into another building that doesn't have satellite
By policy that requires approval by the presiding authority. Which in this case I think would be someone in SLC, not local. But again, read the instructions carefully. Among other things, I think you'll find recording is a no-no.mprusse wrote:and to make it available to the homebound.

You should not need to do that. The instructions your stake president received should tell you how to obtain a URL for the broadcast that will allow you to stream directly from Church headquarters to a meetinghouse that does not have a satellite system.mprusse wrote:I'm curious if it's permissible to grab the satellite signal of a multi-stake/state satellite conference broadcast from SLC on Nov. 6 and webcast it into another building that doesn't have satellite . . .

Re: Webcast a satellite broadcast?
The Church discourages webcasting Church broadcasts; for one reason it consumes unnecessary resources needed for units doing normal stake conference webcasts. In most cases like Multi-Stake conferences, the Church will provide an internet link to the broadcast for units that do not have satellite. The link and code for access will get sent to all the Stake Technology Specialists that are part of the multi-stake conference through email.

Re: Webcast a satellite broadcast?
There are reports that some stakes are webcasting the local stake portion of the regional stake conference, then all the buildings are switching to the satellite feed for the remainder of the conference.
I understand that the instructions usually say the first part of the meeting should be live in each case, and if the stake needs to have more than one, they should send presidency counselors to preside. If this is done, there would be no need at all to use webcasting resources for stakes involved in a regional stake conference broadcast.

Face 2 Face Webcast/Satellite Broadcast
Are the "Face 2 Face" Webcasts also simulcast on the satellite system? We have had some problem with picture freeze during the "Face 2 Face" Webcasts and have had to quickly switch to
our satellite feed. If we know these programs are simulcast over the satellite every time, our setup would be made easier and less embarrassing when changes need to be made on the fly..
Please make that information available with the event announcements.. Thank you..

Yes they are now broadcast through the satellite system. We watched them at the church this way for the latest event.mrbill wrote:Are the "Face 2 Face" Webcasts also simulcast on the satellite system?

Re: Webcast a satellite broadcast?
Things have changed since this thread was started. The multi-stake broadcast letter(s) I've seen expressly prohibits members from viewing in their own homes. There is a URL available to authorized leaders if it's needed in other buildings that do not have a satellite receiver.

Re: Webcast a satellite broadcast?
Things have changed again - satellite broadcasts in North America (at least in the United States and Canada) is going away, and will cease by July of the year 2022 . Also, as I type this, COVID-19 has been a major disruptive event, so check with those local authority, along with where the broadcast is originating from.
