I'm hoping the community will be able to help with a solution to help members arrange temple ride sharing.
For many members that live a medium or long distance away from the Temple, it would be very helpful to be able to easily find out what other members in your local area are wanting or planning to go to the temple and that together you can share transport costs by travelling together.
I live a 2 hour car journey away from the temple and with rising costs our stake presidency are encouraging where ever possible that members fill their cars when they go to the temple. The hard bit is matching up drivers with potential passengers. Currently the HPGL have been assigned to co-ordinate this in their home ward, but sometimes it may be that people living only short distance from each other but in different wards could arrange to car share, but aren't aware of the other person.
In my mind I could see a website that both drivers and passengers could alert others to their plans/desires, listing preferred dates and times of travel to and from the temple like a craigslist but just for temple rides.
Is there something already available that could be adapted for this purpose?
Is this a project the LDS Tech Community could work together on solving?
Your thoughts and comments would be welcome.

The first thing is to have an assessment as to who would use it. My experience in life is that I tend to get stuck with the less desirable company. Like someone who would talk non-stop and/or pry into my life.
So I'd probably look to see who's signed up, but wouldn't want to be visible myself.

Consider using an existing service?
While there may be advantages to creating a new service. There are a number of ride sharing websites that could possibly be leveraged by LDS users:

Re: Temple ride sharing / car pooling
Hello,
Our Stake in California is now actively trying to promote such a concept to gain traction in our Temple attendance efforts.
As a Stake, we would like the help of LDS.org to increase the trust factor for ride sharing. Many of our leaders and others could assist last minute and would like to find those actively looking for transportation to the temple to assist them.
We would love to beta test and possible work to develop this resource through LDS.org or a mobile LDS login app.
Any suggestions where our Stake could discuss more with LDS Tech?

Any that you know of that can combine with LDS Login members only? Our Stake is looking to promote a solution utilizing LDS Login for temple ride sharing to the Sacramento Temple.PhillipsCJ wrote:While there may be advantages to creating a new service. I should point out that you've responded in a thread that's been dormant for over 5 years.
As for using the LDS Account, that's only permitted for church apps. It's not available for third parties.

This would be great not only for rides to the temple, but also rides to church!djwoods wrote:As a Stake, we would like the help of LDS.org to increase the trust factor for ride sharing.
